Abstract

This paper tries to explore the relationship between colloquial poetry, the folk and elite poetry; in an attempt to identify the identity of colloquial poetry as a hybrid literary genre. In order to solve this problematic issue, this study comes in two sections; the first of which is a theoretical framework, and the other is an applied study. The first section attempts to identify the identity of colloquial poetry, through some Arab thinkers and critics who studied the colloquial literature, through judging it, and they built an intellectual and critical position towards it, which can be clearly seen in Al-Aqqad, Ahmed Daif, and Taha Hussein. The second is an applied framework that seeks to reveal the artistic identity of colloquial literature, in light of reviewing and analysis poetic models by the poet Bayram Al-Tunsi (1893-1961).
