تسعى هذه الدراسة إلى محاولة فهم الدين من خلال براجماتية "وليم جيمس" التي عالج من خلالها عددًا من المشکلات التي تدور في إطار فلسفة الدين. من بين هذه المشکلات نجد التجريبية الدينية ومظاهرها وفرضية وجود إله. کذلک دفاع جيمس عن حق الإنسان في الاعتقاد في الأمور التي يتعذر عليه إثباتها بواسطة العقل. کما عالج وليم جيمس مشکلة الشر الأخلاقي معالجة عملية؛ أى بقدرة الفرد على مواجهة الأفعال والحوادث وتحويلها إلى خير أو منفعة. This study is an attempt to understand religion through William James' pragmatism, in which he examined number of problems within the context of philosophy of religion. Among these problems we find religious experience, its aspects and the hypothesis of the existence of God. The study focuses also on James's argument to defend human right to believe in thingsthat cannot be proved by reason. William James dealt with the problem of moral evil in a practical way depending on the motive of the individual person to confront acts and accidents and turn them into good or benefit.
